A lookoff is a Nova Scotian term for a stopping place - typically a high point - with a unique view. It’s a place to pause, take in your surroundings, and see something from a new vantage point.
That idea is at the heart of Lookoff Pictures.
Every story has a point of view. We're interested in finding the one that makes you look twice. We believe where you stand shapes what you see, and that the right angle can reveal something unexpected. We’re drawn to stories with a strong sense of place, compelling characters, and ideas that challenge the prevailing narrative.
We believe production should support the idea, not overpower it. Thoughtful preparation, strong visual storytelling, and meaningful collaboration give a good idea room to become something more.
Based in Nova Scotia, we are driven to make work that connects — stories that explore the human condition, provoke thought, and remain with audiences after the screen goes dark.
Founder.
Drew Meade is a Nova Scotian writer, director, and producer. His films have screened at festivals across Atlantic Canada and beyond. Most recently, he produced the short film Dough Man (A+B Roll Films), which premieres at TIFF in September, 2026.
Drew’s background spans independent filmmaking, narrative and commercial production support, and docustyle tv & digital content development for production companies across Nova Scotia. Drew combines a filmmaker’s creative vision with a producer’s logistical insight, bringing both approaches to all projects - from development to delivery.
Through Lookoff Pictures, Drew creates original film projects while collaborating with artists, and fellow filmmakers to help bring their stories to the screen. He is currently co-producing the feature film Sound & Fury alongside producer Gharrett Paon and writer/director Charles Wahl, while developing his next original narrative short Filter Cake and the short documentary The Lights Before Christmas.
Drew is focused on telling Nova Scotian stories through distinct and novel perspectives.
